Accessibility Is Good Design: WCAG 2.2 Without the Panic

By PixelForge Studio · 2026-08-30 · 9 min read

Around one in six people live with a significant disability. Accessibility is not an edge case; it is a quality bar — and accessible products routinely test better for all users, especially on mobile in bright sunlight, with one hand, or on a slow connection.

Start with the four highest-impact habits: sufficient colour contrast (4.5:1 for body text), visible focus states you design rather than delete, touch targets of at least 24×24 CSS pixels (44 is kinder), and forms that never rely on colour alone to signal errors.

Design the keyboard journey on paper before visual polish: logical tab order, skip links, and modals that trap and return focus correctly. Screen-reader users need headings that describe, links that make sense out of context, and images with honest alt text.

Bake checks into your workflow: contrast plugin in Figma, axe in CI, and one manual keyboard pass per release. Accessibility debt compounds exactly like technical debt — pay it continuously.
